At 0500 the final operation in the Citadel began, as the 4th Vietnamese MarineBattalion began to push toward the southern corner of the Citadel, with support from US Marine Ontos backing them up. The desperate communists trapped against the wall are quickly destroyed and, finally, after 26 days of hard fighting, the Battle of Hue came to a close. Operations to clean up scattered VC and NVA stragglers, as well as to clear the surrounding countryside would continue for some time, but the last, strongest move of the Tet Offensive had finally been beaten.
